As a part of its 50th Anniversary season, The Ruth Page Center for the Arts presents its Fall 2021 Showcase: The “Expanding Universe” Project featuring three events including "BEHIND THE CURTAIN: The 'Expanding Universe' Project," a behind-the-scenes presentation that offers audiences a glimpse of the creative process.
The "BEHIND THE CURTAIN: The 'Expanding Universe' Project" presentation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. at Northeastern Illinois University's Steinberg Fine Arts Center, 3701 West Bryn Mawr. The lecture will feature choreographer Nejla Yatkin discussing her process of re-imagining Ruth Page’s 1932 solo collaboration with artist Isamu Noguchi, "Expanding Universe," including how she creates movement and how she delved into the research necessary for the new work.
The lecture/demonstration will also feature a sneak preview of the new work being developed, performed live by the Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company, and archival footage of Ruth Page's choreography "Variations on Euclid" from 1933.
Following this lecture, Yatkin's re-imagining of "Expanding Universe" premieres at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N Dearborn St., Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
