The African American Arts Alliance is proud to present The Black Dance Focus on You Panel Discussions and Black Dance United Auditions. Black dancers and choreographers of Chicago opportunity to receive resources needed to grow and strengthen their careers. Dancers will have an opportunity to audition for multiple Black Dance companies for access to performance, workshop, or intensive opportunities. Black Dance Focus on You will include two panel/workshops designed to prepare dancers for the upcoming auditions a long with resources/workshops for choreographers who want to advance their careers.

 

Dancers Panel : Stay Ready May 18th, 2022 – 6:30-7:30 PM
Join our panelists for an authentic discussion about the current state of the dance and how working as a dancer is shapeshifting and taking on many forms. Are you an emerging artist trying to decide on joining a company, freelancing, or wanting to balance both? We will unpack some things to consider in making these career decisions.

Choreographers Panel: Booked & Busy May 18th, 2022 – 7:45 9:00 PM
Join this panel of esteemed choreographers and college dance program directors as they share their experiences on dance making and building relationships in the field to support their choreographic journey. They will share tools to build relationships with colleges/universities to get choreographic commissions, as well as what dance programs look for when selecting choreographers to work with students.
