Event Description

BUILT is an evening length production that examines gender as a social construct, and how society has built ideals for how gender should be expressed as a specific sex. BUILT explores what defines femininity and masculinity, the pressures placed on gender expressions, and the repercussions of gender constructs.  Dancemakers: Julie Ferrell, James Moreno, Amanda Ramirez, Stephanie Rankin.

Artist Bio: Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma Julie Ferrell trained under Debi Myers and Tulsa Ballet before receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Kansas. Julie has performed works by Melissa Thodos, Autumn Eckman, William Gill, Talia Beck, Pat Graney, James Moreno, and Alia Simon-Montijo. She supplemented her studies under The Cambrians, Elements Contemporary Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and at Velocity Dance Center in Seattle. In Chicago, Julie is a company member with Noumenon Dance Ensemble, works as a freelance performer and choreographer, and teaches at Chicago area studios including Joel Hall Dancers and Center. She was selected as a choreographer for Simantikos Dance Chicago’s Choreography Kick-Off, and to present her work at EXCHANGE Choreography Festival in Tulsa, OK. Her work has also been shown at Links Hall in Chicago, the University of Kansas, and the American College Dance Association Central Conference. Julie is honored to be a part of Links Hall’s 40th Anniversary season.
