Lar Lubovitch is one of America’s most versatile, popular and widely seen choreographers. Lubovitch’s dances have been performed by many major companies, including American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and many others. His dances are renowned for their musicality, rhapsodic style and sophisticated formal structures. His radiant, highly technical choreography and deeply humanistic voice have been acclaimed worldwide.

In 2007, Lubovitch created the Chicago Dancing Festival, launched in collaboration with the City of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art, which, for 10 seasons, presented five days of performances in downtown Chicago, featuring a national roster of leading American dance companies. The festival was attended by more than 15,000 every year and was presented entirely free to the public. In 2007, he was named Chicagoan of the Year by the Chicago Tribune and in 2008 by Chicago Magazine.

These two performances honor Lar Lubovitch’s 50 years contributing to the dance field. In the spirit of Chicago Dancing Festival, the program will feature local and visiting companies performing repertoire from his prolific career.
