Celebrate National Tap Dance Day 2021 at the premiere virtual production by the Chicago Tap All-Stars, a collaboration of M.A.D.D. Rhythms and Chicago Tap Theatre, Bridging the Gap One Step At A Time. The full-day event will include intermediate and advanced classes, a lecture, a time for crosstown (or cross-continent!) connection, & a performance featuring many of Chicago’s all-star tap performers. Every event is streamed online, open to all ages, and for all tap dance enthusiasts.
The celebration will include TAP CLASSES (10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2 - 4 p.m. CDT) taught by some of Chicago’s best! All classes are virtual & open to all ages. These eight 30-minute classes will not overlap, so students are invited to register for both levels! Intermediate-level classes will be taught by Bril Barret, Mark Yonally, Star Dixon, & Sterling Harris. Advanced-level classes will be taught by Donnetta Jackson, Mark Yonally, Sterling Harris, & Tristan Bruns.
PERFORMANCE (5 p.m. CDT): BRIDGING THE GAP ONE STEP AT A TIME Representing the breadth of diversity of Chicago tap dance, this performance will be a celebration of the inclusivity, connection, & talent of some of Chicago’s all-star performers. This performance will feature Billy Siegenfeld, Chicago Tap Theatre, Jimmy Payne Jr., Kendra Jorstad, Marty + Jessica Bronson, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Nico Rubio, Patti Vickerman, Rich Ashworth, Steven Spanopoulos, & Tre Dumas.
TAP DANCE DAY LECTURE (12:15 p.m. CDT): HISTORY + JAZZ This hour-long lecture will be part tap history, part jazz history, led by Chicago Tap All-Stars founders Bril Barrett & Mark Yonally. Time permitting, there will be a Q&A.
CROSSTOWN CONNECTION HAPPY HOUR (4 p.m. CDT) Meet the community! During this one-hour gap between classes & the performance, you’re invited to log into an open virtual room & talk with other attendees. Make connections and say hello to your tap friends.
