During World War II, Ruth Page choreographed a series of dances set to poetry, in which she simultaneously embodied and vocalized the work of such poets as Edna St. Vincent Millay, E.E.. Cummings and Langston Hughes. Stifler's "Dances With Words and Music" continues the conversation, using many of the poets Page did, but with a contemporary movement vocabulary and live music accompaniment within a multi-media environment. "Dances With Words and Music" has been sponsored in part by the Poetry Foundation and is presented in collaboration with the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. Also on the program will be guest artist, Ruth Page Civic Ballet. The company will present contemporary and classic repertoire, and the preview of Concert Dance Inc. company member, Edson Cabrera's new choreographic work.
