Tab Show takes its name from an early 20th century form of entertainment in which a “tabloid” version of a musical comedy was performed as part of a traveling road show. In Tab Show, Lucky Plush performs two works—Rink Life and Curb Candy—that highlight the company’s signature blend of dance, theatre, and comedy. 
 
Rink Life plays out in a communal space that nods to classic roller rink culture of the 1970s and 80s, where people navigated relationships, self-expression, and rejection in real-time. The sound score builds upon disparate fragments of information—partially overheard conversations, distant whispers, pop-song earworms—and is entirely generated by the performers in real-time. Curb Candy accumulates passing moments from favorite Lucky Plush repertory in a dreamlike roadshow. 

 

Created & directed by Julia Rhoads in collaboration with the ensemble:

Kara Brody, Michel Rodriguez Cintra, Ethan Kirschbaum, Elizabeth Luse, Jacinda Ratcliffe, Rodolfo Sanchez Sarracino, Enid Smith, Aaron R. White, Meghann Wilkinson. Rink Life music collaborator: Bethany Clearfield (Grant Park Chorus, Chicago Symphony Chorus, and the band Outertown).

* In conjunction with the Fri., April 27 performance of Tab Show, Lucky Plush hosts its annual benefit bash, PLUCKY LUSH 2018. Enjoy a pre-show cocktail (6:30pm), performance (7:30pm), and mingle with the artists in the Level 1 Lobby for heavy appetizers and bottomless drinks (9pm).
