South Chicago Dance Theatre's Auditorium Theatre of Chicago debut, Memoirs of Jazz in the Alley, memorializes Jazz in the Alley, a vibrant cultural happening that shaped the legacy of Jazz music on Chicago’s south side. Memoirs is a force of reclamation celebrating and honoring jazz as an Africanist art form rooted in the Black body. Collaborators include international scenic and projection designer Rasean Davonte Johnson and local musicians, Isaiah Collier and the Chosen Few. This 75-minute dance piece is performed live by 25 dancers of the SCDT Main Company and Emerging Artist Program.
