Within a festive gallery setting, moderator Zachary Whittenburg delightfully guides the process, and in addition to stimulating conversation, audience members will enjoy networking time and delicious complimentary appetizers and wine, thanks to sponsorship by Whole Foods.

Ticket price includes complimentary food and beverage and access to all online materials.

Doors and bar open at 6:00pm. Event begins at 6:15pm.

About the Artist: Informed by Taoism, Buddhism, and Japanese traditional arts, Kato has been exploring ways to express the fundamental beauty of human beings. Through her performances and choreographic explorations she noticed the dynamic relationship between composition and improvisation. As a result of pursuing subtleness, chance, absolute, and relationships, her Incidents (2010 -) series started to be inspired by the butterfly effect, and the mirror combinations of Euclidian plane isometry. The idea that if one flap of butterfly’s wings could change the course of weather forever, one slight movement of the performer’s fingertip could influence the other dancers onstage and the atmosphere beyond them. Also inspired by Alexander Calder and his mobile sculpture, having endless formation possibilities, yet following the rules of physics. Kato hopes to testify how sensitivity and awareness of each other can convey balanced and harmonious moments as well as surprise. She is very curious how simple, yet multilayered complex dance movement is perceived by the audience, by receiving various responses and feedback that is inherent in Dance: A Moving Canvas, she will be able to investigate how the movement can be strengthened to increase resonance with the viewer.
