Moving Dialogs: Women in the Director’s Chair Featuring Michelle Kranicke
Tuesday, Jan 26, 2016
6-7:30pm
Links Hall
3111 N. Western Ave, Studio A
Chicago, IL
Michelle Kranicke, curator of The aMID Festival, along with panelists Deborah Hay, Bob Eisen, and Cynthia Oliver will discuss expanding definitions of virtuosity and the differences between early and late styles within a long-running choreographic career. The aMID Festival celebrates the underserved performative body of the aging artist and challenges commonly held views regarding the age demographic of a dancer or physical performing artist. The festival accentuates the aesthetic shifts that come with a consistent art/movement practice, as well as those that accompany working with one’s body as it ages and changes. Join us as audiences and artists dive into a lively conversation, moderated by Elise Archias, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Illinois, Chicago, to examine the diversity of female artistry and how more equitable representation of the female voice in dance leads to tremendous discovery.
