Push Pull is both a live, short dance work and a video installation created with artist Faheem Majeed for his exhibit "Planting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden: Shroud".
The short, live performance, staged in the main gallery of Hyde Park Art Center activates Faheem Majeed's rubbing of the historic Southside Community Art Center. Featuring The Seldoms' dancer Damon D. Green and and choreographed by Artistic Director Carrie Hanson.
Projected on HPAC's street-facing windows, the video Push Pull features dancer Green inside the New Bauhaus gallery of the historic South Side Community Art Center, bundling and carrying Majeed's graphite rubbing of the historic Bronzeville institution. Hanson and Majeed, who was Director of SSCAC from 2005-2011, created this short film in response to Majeed's earlier Piano Push, his meditation about the weight of institutional legacy that a director bears.
