Event Description

The series visits Hyde Park on Saturday, July 16 at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center.

Stone Soups Rhythms new work ‘Cheap Suites & Hotels’ will showcase for the first time at this concert, with choreography by CHRP artistic director Jumaane Taylor. The work will incorporate all tracked music created by musicians of the midwest.

Closing with the remarkable ‘Free Spirts Suite’ by Christina Carminucci, Rhythm World 33 faculty from New Jersey. ‘Free Spirits Suite’ is a three-piece tap dance interpretation of the 1975 Mary Lou Williams record ‘Free Spirits’. An ensemble of tap dancers and jazz musicians narrate the journey of “the spirit” and its search for divine purpose here on Earth, all while paying tribute to “The First Lady of Jazz”.

We are grateful you chose your evening with us! To celebrate over 3 decades of bringing percussive dance to Chicago. Thank you so much for joining the Chicago Human Rhythm Project at the legendary DuSable Museum for our premiering matinee of tap dance.
