Event Description

Chicago – On October 4th and 5th at 7pm, Chicago Dance Crash will present “Rubbernecks”, a two-act world premiere concert at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. This production will serve as the first show for Crash under Artistic Director KC Bevis who's critically-acclaimed career as both a Crash company artist and community leader has delighted and inspired patrons across the Midwest and beyond. Bevis has curated two new works by guest choreographers closely associated with the Crash family, alongside her own self-choreographed piece that reflects her vision for the organization since assuming creative leadership.

The upcoming concert will feature a one-act world premiere, “On to the Other,” by choreographer and Crash alum Elijah Motley, a dynamic exploration of identity that combines street dance, contemporary movement, and theater. Performed to an original score by local music producer e j e c t, this family-friendly performance immerses audiences in the experiences of seven dancers, showcasing how their personal narratives can be expressed on stage.

Newly appointed Artistic Director KC Bevis will present “rubbernecks,” a work featuring a trio of solos that are intriguingly “trioed,” inviting viewers to engage with unique interpretations of flexibility and perspective- necks that are rubber. Following the resounding success of Bevis’s 2023 structured-freestyle premiere work “proximal” the Ensemble takes their experience with battles, cyphers, and improvisation onto the primetime concert stage with “Necked up, Cosmically,” directed by company artist Ibrahim Sabbi. This long-form freestyle work explores the dreamlike journey of a worker slipping into an astral realm, inspired by various contemporary artworks from visual artists Arrogant Kei, Dolors Silentium, MendezMendez, Stupid Giant (Alejandro Castellanos), and Meanwhile in Nowhere.

Seating will be very limited for this weekend-only showing, and, like all freestyles, both performances will be entirely different. Join us in October as we embrace a new era of Chicago Dance Crash with Rubbernecks.
