South Chicago Dance Theatre makes its South American debut with performances in Bogotá, Colombia in October, an outcome of the company’s Choreographic Diplomacy™ program launched in 2018 and presently spanning the creation and presentation of new work with artists in Seoul, Korea; Arnhem, Netherlands; and Colombia.
Initiated in 2018, the Choreographic Diplomacy ™ program enables SCDT to exercise
one of its primary objectives; to cultivate global leaders through the creation and presentation of new choreographic work. SCDT aims to employ the choreographic process to bridge the gap between often disparate people and cultures, fighting xenophobia through the universal language of movement.
Since commencing this program in 2018, SCDT has undertaken an ongoing partnership with choreographer Joseph Kim and Choomna Dance Company of Seoul, Korea.
This invitation from Los Andes Cultural Center is an opportunity for SCDT to perform for its first international presenter and to cross pollinate a repertory concert with the Choreographic Diplomacy™ program. SCDT’s time at Los Andes includes performances of its newest evening length work Memoirs of Jazz in the Alley and other repertory and a second shared evening with Choreographic Diplomacy™ partner Choomna Dance Company.
