Dance4Peace: 2013 Youth Dance Explosion

Red Clay Dance Company (RCD) presents its 2013 Youth Dance Explosion! Featuring RCD Youth Ensemble and the RCD Club with special guests M.A.D.D Rhythms West: The BBF Crew,  Dance Excel (Gary,IN), and Signature Dance Company (Milwaukee, WI). This family friendly concert is a day to CELEBRATE dance and youth!

Dance in May, that happy month boding so much sunny promise, somewhat earlier in the day than usual when The Seldoms bring their work on climate change to "Eat to the Beat," the Harris Theater's ongoing series of lunchtime breaks at noon May 1.
The Subconscious Development Motion Project (SDMP) follows the next day with "Simply Intricate," an interactive multimedia presentation at Collaboraction, up on the third floor at 1579 N. Milwaukee Av. (The Joffrey Ballet's "Othello" continues May 2-5 at the Auditorium Theatre.)
The second weekend of the "Braiding Rivers" fest at Links Hall arrives May 3 and 4 with work by Silvita Diaz Brown and PosterchildArt. (Remember: Links is now at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Av.) Natya Dance Theatre presents Leela Samson and the Troupe of India May 4 at the Metea Valley High School, 1801 N. Eola Rd., Aurora. The RE| Dance Group performs "Homeland" May 4 at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
Choreographer Emily Stein offers "Experiments in Ballet #2,"described as an "immersive performance that takes place throughout the Visceral Dance Center," on May 4 and 5 at 2820 N. Elston Av. 

 

 

 

 

May 4 also marks the end of Audience Architects' Chicago Dance Month with their closing celebration at the American Rhythm Center from 4-6pm.
DanceWorks Chicago then presents another "Dance Chance" offering--a program of new work with audience interchange with the choreographers--May 6 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. The Moving Dialogs series continues May 6 with a panel on diversity at 6:30 p.m. at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Headquarters, 1147 W. Jackson Blvd.
On May 9, Hubbard Street and Hubbard Street 2 perform another in their ongoing and on-site series at the Art Institute of Chicago, this one labeled "Unavoidable Impact" and geared to the museum's special exhibit on Pablo Picasso. Seattle-based artist Helen Thorsen brings us the engagingly titled "The Museum of Poison" May 10 at the Hamlin Park Fieldhouse.
The Dance4Peace 2013 Youth Dance Explosion features the Red Clay Youth Ensemble, the Red Clay Dance Club, M.A.D.D. Rhythms West: the BBF Crew and Dancexcel May 11 at the Gary Comer Youth Auditorium, 7200 S. Ingleside Av.
Emerging talents from the Chicago Academy of the Arts take the stage for a gala May 14 at the Harris Theater. The Music + Movement Showcase series continues teaming up Giordano Dance Chicago May 15 at the Auditorium Theatre.
Mordine & Company Dance Theater offers its emerging choreographers outing May 16 and 17 at the Hamlin Park Fieldhouse, while the Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble performs "Touch" and "Mirrors" May 16-25 at the Defibrillator Gallery, 1136 N. Milwaukee Av.
The often wild and wacky, but rarely dull, Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg brings its singular approach to ballet with "Rodin," inspired by the life of the famed sculptor, May 17-19 at the Auditorium.
"Serenade" and an act from "Swan Lake" are George Balanchine works on the program when Ballet Chicago performs its annual spring outing May 18 and 19 at the Harris. The Striding Lion Performance Group presents "Dada Gert" May 23-31 at Hamlin Park.
DanceWorks Chicago celebrates the 6th anniversary of its DanceMoves showcase, with works by Paige Cunningham Calderella, Joshua Blake Carter, Brandon DiCriscio, Joshua Manculich, Ahmad Simmons and Jessica Miller Tomlinson May 23 at the Szold Hall of the Old Town School of Folk Music.
Jessica Deahr and Robert McKee are at the helm when the Chicago Dance Crash premieres "The Cotton Mouth Club" May 25-June 9 at the Victory Gardens Theatre at the Biograph, 2433 N. Lincoln Av. Time-travelling from the '80s back to Prohibition, the work, promising hot romance and jazz, could well be a sizzling harbinger of the imminent summer.
But May's not done yet: Matter Dance Company delivers its summer engagement May 30-June 2 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Av., and the Chicago Academy of the Arts ensemble, under the direction of Randy Duncan, entertains at "Eat to the Beat" May 30 at the Harris.
