Position: Marketing Manager
Status: Full -Time, Exempt
Location: Remote; occasionally on-site at meetings and public events
Pay: $42,000 annually, plus health insurance

POSITION DESCRIPTION - The Marketing Manager (MM) reports to the Executive Director and works to serve the organization’s core mission and programs. The MM is responsible for leading SCD communications and marketing efforts and overseeing the provision of promotional opportunities to our members (i.e. ad sales, which includes setting earned income goals annually). In addition, the MM works with SCD staff to expand the reach and interconnectedness of our digital communications and to increase the vitality of the dance sector in Chicago. Along with the rest of the SCD team, the MM will help execute programming, including but not limited to Community Convenings, Screendance Club, Chicago Dance Month, and SCD’s annual fundraiser. The MM will have a dynamic vision for our communications as well as interest in supporting and growing their skills in a range of areas critical to the operations of a small non-profit organization: public programming; member services; production assistance. Areas of Responsibility:
Communications
• Bring a storyteller’s eye, compassion, urgency, and humanity to all SCD communications.
• Oversee the sale, scheduling, and creation of all website advertisements.
• Manage other earned revenue programs including email ad sales, distribution services, and other promotional services offered by SCD.
• Provide input and oversight regarding consistency in tone, intent, and standards of the See Chicago Dance brand, including all content on SeeChicagoDance.com.
• Keep up to date on general marketing and communications trends and dance in Chicago.
• Share experience and insight with SCD staff and constituents.
Database Management & Data Analysis
• Manage and maintain CRM (Neon), including keeping data clean.
• Work with Executive Director and Community Engagement Manager to develop ongoing methodology for evaluation of programs and services.
• Work with SCD Media Specialist to develop ongoing methodology to track engagement on website and social media channels and via MailChimp communications. Co-create an annual audit detailing trends, cumulative numbers, etc.
Development
• Provide knowledge and support to Executive Director and grant writer for grant proposals.
• Assist in the planning and execution of annual fundraiser, including managing volunteers at lobby tables at Chicago dance performances and other targeted events.
• Develop successful new advertising partnerships with sponsors and businesses related to the dance field.
Administration and Executive Support
• Keep SCD staff apprised about new possibilities and impact beyond familiar social media and communications channels.
• Work with Marketing Committee Chair to set priorities and help run monthly Marketing Committee meetings.
• Attend weekly one-hour staff meetings and, on occasion, bi-monthly Board meetings.
• In late 2022 and 2023, serve as key staff to address marketing, communications and web needs before, during and after upcoming grant-supported website overhaul.
• All SCD staff share in assisting with our dance floor rental program and other equipment rentals: pick-up and return; inventory; checking items in and out of downtown storage unit.
General Expectations:
• Demonstrate outstanding communication and organizational skills.
• Exhibit curiosity, flexibility, willingness to learn. Take initiative, ask questions, and prioritize relationship-building, especially with regard to the Chicago dance field, and understanding of Chicago arts non-profit ecosystem.
• Possess:
~ a focused, casual professionalism and a sense of humor.
~ keen attention to detail, especially with regard to editing and proofing written copy.
~ 3-5 years of previous experience in a non-profit work environment. Previous management level employment is preferred.
~ fluency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
~ proficiency with other software that will be used on a regular basis including Neon (CRM database) and QuickBooks;
~ experience with graphic design software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign.
~ knowledge of social media and website content management tools.
~ experience managing contract employees and interns (desirable, but not essential).
