DanceWorks Chicago in partnership with the Lou Conte Dance Studio presents DanceChance: a one-hour event launched in March 2008, designed to offer opportunities for choreographers to show their work informally, create a forum for dialogue among artists, and build audiences for dance. Inspired by the concept of an open-mic night, DanceChance is held monthly and features three choreographers, chosen by a random drawing, each of whom has a 15-minute time slot to share their work. To round out the hour, the final 15-minute segment is a moderated meet-the-artist session providing an opportunity for the artists to discuss their work and creative process, as well as time for audience members to ask questions. At the conclusion of each DanceChance, the next month’s three choreographers are chosen from names submitted by those in attendance. Admission is $3 cash at the door.
