Overview

Silvita Diaz Brown is an independent Latino choreographer, dancer, acroyogi and yoga instructor established in Chicago. Silvita has been privileged to work with diverse communities of artists internationally. Her choreography has been performed in Delhi, Toronto, Chicago, Kentucky, Pennsylvannia, and various locations in Mexico. For 3 years, her work has been featured at the Mexican festivals FITSA (Festival Internacional de Teatro Susana Alexander) and Puebla Baila Festival. She has also served as a connecting bridge between Chicago artists and Puebla, Mexico through FITSA. In November 2014 Silvita's work was presented at Delhi International Arts Festival in India.
In Chicago, her works has been presented in several venues, a few to mention are: The Harold Washington Library, Malcolm X College, Hamlin Park, and Links Hall, which also includes; Braiding Rivers Festival and To Art and Profit Festival among other venues and festivals. Her choreography has been supported by the Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation, DCASE grant programs, Audience Architects, Links Hall, and many generous supporters. As a performer, she has worked with independent choreographers, dance companies and theater directors in Mexico, Canada and United States.
Silvita holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance from UDLA, Puebla, and a MFA in Theatre with a Movement Diploma from York University, Toronto. She also completed two yoga certifications from Chicago Yoga Center and Core Power Yoga and has been teaching yoga since 2005. Silvita has also been training in acroyoga for a few years as an extension of her choreographic language and aesthetics. She has done acrobatic trainings with Acroyoga Montreal, Acro Dutch, Daniel Scott and Aaron Lind. Currently she teaches yoga, acroyoga and movement. She also has done yoga demonstrations for Univision television in Chicago. Her yoga practice and teaching have been transformational vehicles in her life and have richly influenced her dance practice, creative work, vision, and performance. 

Artist Statement: Diaz Brown's work interlaces dance imagery, acrobatics, sound and spoken word in English and Spanish. Her work investigates the self, its desires, fears and realizations and how they intersect with societal norms and expectations as they pertain to gender, race, and class. Silvita is passionate about creating works that are based on life's journeys. Her work attempts to reach all as curious and evolving beings.
