Ballet 5:8’s Revive Retreat is a powerful weekend of refreshment, relationship and revival for professional dancers! The three-day event is designed to provide rest, revitalization and renewed passion amid the physically and emotionally demanding lifestyle of a professional performer. The retreat is designed to provide time and space for dancers of all backgrounds to experience spiritual and emotional refreshment through prayer, meditation, spiritual mentorship, and group seminars.
Retreat Featured Speakers Julianna Rubio Slager, Lara Faucher, Randall Flinn and Patricia Hoffman will share from their vast experience in the professional dance world, providing insight on the challenges of caring for oneself mentally, spiritually, nutritionally and emotionally in the highly intense field of professional dance. Carefully crafted ballet, modern, improv, and Christian Yoga and classes taught by Featured Speakers will give dancers space to reconnect with their passion for dance, care for their bodies and recover the joy that first drew them into the profession. The retreat is based from a Christian worldview, but dancers from all backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Retreat will begin on Thursday evening with an opening session featuring Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager. On Friday, June 28 participants will start off the day with Christian Yoga and and classical ballet technique. In the afternoon, participants will be able to choose two out of six different available seminars and dance classes: dance options include modern and improv, while seminar options include those pertaining to mental and emotional health, physical health and nutrition, and spiritual well-being. The afternoon will conclude with a time of corporate prayer and worship* designed to provide encouragement and refreshment amid the particular challenges and stresses of working within the performing arts field. After dinner, the day will conclude with a final session featuring a Summit keynote speaker. On Saturday, participants will be able to start off their day with another classical ballet technique class. The day will include two more general sessions and a second opportunity for participants to attend breakout sessions pertaining to their particular area of interest. The Revive closing session, featuring Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager, will be attended by Revive participants as well as participants from the Christian Dance Educators Leadership Summit.
*Ballet 5:8 is an independent nonprofit organization with a Christian basis, but it is not affiliated with any particular Christian denomination. Dance educators, administrators and leaders from all backgrounds are welcome to attend the event and to participate in prayer and worship segments to the extent they choose and are comfortable with.

Who Should Attend the Retreat?
The Retreat is designed specifically for professional dancers of any position or ranking, ages 18 and older. The Retreat is appropriate for dancers performing in full-time or part-time capacities, in both small and large companies, as well as dancers in trainee and college level training programs. Based on Ballet 5:8’s style basis in ballet, the retreat focuses on dancers with at least some background in classical and contemporary ballet. Any dancers who feel the need for refreshment and revitalization between performing seasons are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Featured Speakers
Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Julianna Rubio Slager is originally from Spring Arbor, Michigan. Slager began her dance training with Mrs. Lori Ladwig and went on to study under notable teachers from Ann Arbor Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, the Vaganova Academy and Puerto Rican National Ballet. Slager enjoyed dancing under Barbara Smith at Greater Lansing Ballet during her training, and also under Kathy Thibodeaux and Sol Maisonet at Ballet Magnificat. Upon moving to Chicago, Slager had the opportunity to work as freelance artist, teacher and choreographer in the Greater Chicago area. Slager was instrumental in the co-founding of Ballet 5:8 in 2012. Beginning in 2014, Ballet 5:8 began touring nationally, bringing Slager's critically acclaimed ballets such as Scarlet and The Stor(ies) of You and Me to audiences across the nation. In 2015, Slager was awarded the Individual Artist Program Grant from the City of Chicago for recognition and continued development of her choreographic work.
In the short span of six years, Slager has enjoyed training and mentoring her first generation of aspiring artists in Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts' Pre-Professional and Conservatory programs, and in the Ballet 5:8 Trainee Program. She has had the joy of watching her students be accepted into many prestigious summer intensive, trainee and year-round programs, including the Kirov Academy, Pittsburg Ballet Theater, Houston Ballet, Washington Ballet, Joffrey Ballet Trainee Program, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Ellison Ballet, School of American Ballet, and others.
Randall Flinn, Founder and Artistic Director of Ad Deum Dance Company, began his dance training in Houston over twenty five years ago with Glenn Hunsucker, Camille Long Hill, Dina Vail and Patsy Swayze. His most recent modern dance influences have come from studies with The José Limón Dance Company and Steve Rooks, former principal dancer with Martha Graham. He has taught and choreographed in the Houston area as a guest artist for the Houston Ballet Academy, The Episcopal High School, Houston Met Dance Company, Joan Karff Dance Company, The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and North Harris Performing Arts Dance Company.
Flinn was selected as a guest choreographer for Houston’s Dance Salad 1999, Dance Houston 2006, and Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance 2007. Nationally, he has served as guest faculty and choreographer for Cirque Du Soleil’s-Alegria, Ballet Magnificat, Belhaven University, Friends University, Project Dance NYC, LA, and Sydney, Australia, as well as Hillsong and Dance Revolution Conventions.
Having lived throughout Europe and Asia for ten years, Mr. Flinn has also been a guest artist for Hong Kong Ballet, City Contemporary – Hong Kong, Guanzhou Modern Dance Company – China, Xaris Danz Europe, and Youth With a Mission International Schools of the Arts.
Patricia Hoffman is Founder & Artistic Director of Colorado Ballet Society. Before moving to Colorado Springs, she was the founder and Director of La Jolla Festival Ballet and Dance Center in Southern California for 10 years. Ms. Hoffman began her studies in Monterey, California, with Patricia Wester. At age 16, she began studying full time with England's Ballet Rambert. She received her MFA in classical ballet from U.S. International University where she also later joined the faculty. Ms. Hoffman performed principal roles created for her with Ballet International and San Diego Ballet. She also directed and taught in London, at the San Diego Ballet School, and the USIU Conservatory of the Arts.
Lara Faucher is an Adjunct Professor at Grand Valley State University in the Department of Music and Dance and is on Faculty at the Grand Rapids Ballet School. She began her training with the School of the Grand Rapids Ballet under the direction of Charthel Arthur and Robert Estner. She received additional training from renowned teachers such as Sally Seven, Cherie Noble, George DeLaPena, Rebecca Wright, Paul Sutherland, Beatrice Rodriguez, Edward Villella and Trinette Singleton. Her continued studies took her to the Joffrey and Ballet Magnificat. Lara danced professionally with Ballet Magnificat! touring throughout the United States and Canada. After dancing professionally, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hope College with a B.A. in Performance/Choreography. She is the recipient of the Florence Cavanaugh Award in 1998 and the H.J.Kuiper Award in 2002.
Ms. Faucher is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. Ms. Faucher is also the Resident Dance Artist at the Holland Area Arts Council where she offers privates and consulting. She also travels as a guest teacher and choreographer throughout the State of Michigan. Lara was Founder and Artistic Director of Turning Pointe School of Dance in Holland, Michigan, from 1999 to the Spring of 2014. During this time, she developed an intensive curriculum for ballet and choreographed nine full length ballets while having the privilege to mentor and train many students into professional careers in dance.
