Join us for the November installment of Moving Dialogs as we focus on the evolution of European based and classical dance forms with luminary artists who are redefining and pushing traditional boundaries. Shifting Identity panelists will explore the changing landscape of American Ballet and Contemporary Dance in the Post- Balanchine era, and discuss how these shifts are a reflection of larger societal change. The all star panel features leaders in the Chicago dance world, including Hubbard Street Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton, Paige Cunningham, former dancer with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Assistant Professor at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago and Joffrey Ballet Artistic Director Ashley Wheater. The program will be moderated by William Whitener, choreographer and former Artistic Director of Kansas City Ballet who has performed worldwide and on Broadway with The Joffrey Ballet, Twyla Tharp Dance, Bob Fosse, and New York City Opera, among others. James Sanders, resident composer and violinist in Cerqua Rivera's live music ensemble and a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta will open and close the event. There will also be a networking reception with the artists after the discussion and light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited and RSVP's are strongly encouraged.
Moving Dialogs: Global Exchange is funded in part by the Chicago Seminar on Dance and Performance, the Illinois Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Illinois General Assembly and the Joyce Foundation.
