Each summer, Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts and the Ballet 5:8 professional company partner to provide a range of summer intensive programs for intermediate and advanced students of ballet. The intensive programs, gaining wider popularity each year, exemplify our commitment to a high level of excellence in classical ballet training. However, as we know from Scripture,
…while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come [1Ti 4:8 ESV].
Each of our intensive programs includes morning worship and devotions, daily Bible study, and regular times of reflection that challenge students at all levels of maturity in their Christian faith to seek our Lord Jesus Christ above all else.
Programs
Ballet 5:8’s Summer 2015 plans include several different program lengths and levels. Students may indicate their program preference on their audition form; students will be notified of program(s) they have been accepted into in their audition result letter.
"I gained a lot more knowledge about technicality. The teachers helped me with my port-de-bras and my turnout. They gave me exercises and tips to think about and worded things differently that I wasn’t used to which was very helpful. " - Lydia Fedor, Summer Intensive 2014 Student
All summer intensive programs include:
- Daily ballet technique and pointe,
- A range of afternoon classes that may include variations, repertoire, jazz, modern, improv, character dance, stretch/strengthening classes, acting/mime, port de bras, and choreography
- Seminars on a variety of dance related topics such as nutrition, mental health, cross training and injury prevention
- Morning devotions, Bible study and worship
Student Showcase
Ballet 5:8’s outward-focused mission for training young artists in strong technique but also toward mature faith in Christ wouldn’t be complete during the intensive programs without an opportunity to share what we’ve been working on. Each of the intensives concludes with a Student Showcase, held on the Friday or Saturday at the end of the program. The showcases are an opportunity for students to perform variations and other repertoire learned during the intensives. Moreover, the showcases allow students, program staff, friends and family to join together in celebrating the growth experienced by students during the intensives and, most importantly, in worshiping God!
"Not only did I learn that YES! Glorifying God in dance is completely possible, but God also revealed to me why we need to glorify Him in everything we do..." - Valerie Linsner, Summer Intensive 2014.
