Fall Performance Workshop - 20th Century American Social and Popular Dance

Seeking dancers, musicians, performers of African descent to restage arts education performance for upcoming symposium December 7-8, 2024.  

Roots to Rap: Evolutions of American Rhythm is a 400-year journey tracing the undeniable power of rhythm and the drum, and how it altered American (and world) culture forever.  From gospel to trap to jazz and everything in between, this interactive and informative performance weaves dance, physical theater, soundscapes, and “guest performers” from the audience to help attendees of all ages make immediate and relevant connections to American history.

Dancers should be proficient in at least two African/American diasporic dance styles and comfortable improvising.  Professional experience welcomed but not required.

  • 11am-2pm in Evanston beginning October 20 (join anytime)
  • Performance in Evanston, with potential for more in 2025
  • $150 for performance PLUS additional rehearsal pay for committed dancers
