The DanszLoop Company
DanszLoop Chicago (nfp), a theatrical modern dance company, was founded in 2001-by Artistic Director Paula Frasz and a nine-member Board of Directors, dedicated to bringing high-quality, audience-friendly modern dance to the City of Chicago and its environs.Not-for-Profit status was achieved in 2002.
The premier of DanszLoop Chicago (nfp) at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, IL on February 5, 2002, was completely sold out.
DanszLoop Chicago specializes in dance interpretations of the written word, specifically plays. DLC collaborated with renowned Flamenco artist Luis Montero in 2007 to create a modern dance adaptationn of "The House of Bernarda Alba", the iconic Spanish play by Gracia-Lorca. Bernarda successfully began the drama/dance fusion of DanszLoop Chicago choreography and performance.
Today DanszLoop is expanding to national audiences.Frasz was commissioned to choreograph a dance adaptation of a Tennessee Williams short story. Lorita was performed by DanszLoop Chicago at the prestigious TENNESSEE WILLIAMS FESTIVAL Provincetown, MA in September of 2008. "In 2010 DanszLoop returned to the PTW Festival to perform "The Escapes", three short Williams plays with three corresponding dances. Frasz returned to the cape in 2011 as a movement consultant. DanszLoop will travel with the festival to New Orleans, LA in March of 2013 and play another significant role in the festival in September 2013 at Provincetown. DanszLoop Chicago is the resident dance company of the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival.
In November of 2011, DanszLoop brought the success of "The Escapes" to The American Theater company in Chicago. Doing six performances as a special subscriber-only event, DLC cemented its partnership wth the American Theater Company. The two institutions continue their collaborations in Chicago, aiding each other in the development of dance/drama and the movement interpretation of plays."
The company presents annual and bi-annual concerts in Chicago. It is regularly featured in DANCE CHICAGO,and in 2009, BEST OF DANCE CHICGO. Summber finds the company performing in the Bucktown Festival and other outdoor fairs. DanszLoop continues to present unusual and successful performances, benefits and special events.
DanszLoop is growing through its university outreach teaching programs in colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. Nominated for the Elizabeth Cheney Award through the Chicago Dance and Music Alliance, recepient of government grants and numerous gifts from individual donors, DanszLoop takes its place as one of the most engrossing, exciting new dance companies in the city of Chicago.
