Overview

The mission of The Iona Calhoun School of Ballet is to allow students regardless of race, religion or gender, to experience and participate in ballet and it’s allied art forms. Each student is provided the freedom to explore their artistry. While creativity is strongly encouraged, we insist that students grasp the technique and discipline which embodies this time-honored art form. The school’s goals are two fold; to develop        self-esteem, and to provide students with an outlet for artistic expression. Adherence to these principals allows our students to develop at the apex of their abilities and achieve a fusion between the mind, body and soul. Ballet is the foundation for many dance forms, such as ballroom and Hip Hop. Although one of the more technical art forms, the study of ballet is richly rewarding.

For over 12 years, The Iona Calhoun School of Ballet has taught children on the South Side of Chicago basics of classical ballet. The outstanding reputation coupled with a warm cultural and rigorous curriculum, have contributed to the schools significant growth in recent years. The comprehensive curriculum provides students with a strong technical base, lending to adaptability in other styles of dance. Social emotional principals have been woven into the fabric of our curriculum. Thus, allowing students growth and development to flourish regardless of weather they become a professional dancer or not. The Iona Calhoun School of Ballet strives to bring the arts into the lives of all people. We strive to give the South Side Chicago Communities opportunities to experience and discover the joys of dance.
