"We Believe That Dance Can Be Learned And Enjoyed By Everyone!"
In the Pre-Dance, Pre-Ballet programs designed for ages 3 through 6, children will progress through various stages of ballet preparation. Steps and exercises will be learned through a combination of free and controlled movement. The children will develop an appreciation for the art of ballet through its musical education, including the knowledge of rhythm and tonal texture and dynamics that will be taught. Gradually the children will learn correct posture and graceful carriage. They will be introduced to the basic positions and steps of the pre-ballet level, and will learn and perform short, simplified historic and folk dances on stage.
The Classical Ballet classes offered from age 7 to adult follow the Vaganova-Tarasov method, as developed from Russian, French and Italian classical ballet and used in the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet Theaters. This method is scientifically based to develop healthy bodies and good muscle coordination. It has been approved by doctors and health specialists as a safe and developmentally sound system. For a well rounded program in classical ballet, the school also offers instruction of historic dance (gavotte, minuet, etc.) and character dance (European folk-dance modified for classical ballet). The class work culminates in on-stage performances.
The Jazz and Tap classes cover that part of dance which is inseparable from a complete American dance education. We will emphasize the teaching of jazz and tap based primarily on the free, unrestricted interpretation of the music, using the techniques of modern dance, ballet, and floor exercise, and will develop them during the classes into original combinations which will constitute the core on the on-stage jazz and tap performances.
The Modern Dance - Student Choreography classes familiarize the students with modern dance, and the children choreograph new dances and present their best work during stage performances.
