Applications for Choreographers Showcase and Rivera Court Stage are now open!
Detroit Dance City Festival (DDCF) is an annual community building event that celebrates dance in its various forms and disciplines. Now in its twelfth year, DDCF includes performances, master classes, and networking opportunities all held in the vibrant city of Detroit at the festival’s central venues, the Detroit Institute of Arts and Chroma Detroit. Our mission is to educate diverse audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network linking Michigan, the greater US, and the world!
The 2024 DDCF will be held September 6-8, 2024 at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The Choreographers Showcase is one of DDCF's most highly anticipated indoor performance events, providing a platform for choreographers to present their work on the majestic Detroit Film Theatre stage. DDCF's Choreographers Showcase is an opportunity to bring together artists and dancers from around the world to share their current projects with each other, and with DDCF audiences alike. From among the diverse body of works submitted by our applicants, pieces will be thoughtfully selected to showcase an inclusive representation of local, national, and international talent.

LOCATION: Detroit Film Theatre, at the Detroit Institute of Arts
APPLICATION FEES & DEADLINE:
- Early Bird Application: $50.00 per work if your application is received by January 26.
- Regular Application: $60.00 per work if your application is received between January 27 and February 23, 2024.
ACCEPTED APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE:
- A performance opportunity at the magnificent Detroit Film Theatre.
- Technical support.
- Marketing support.
- Professional photography and videography of your performance.
- Consideration for the DDCF Festival Exchange Program. (details below)*
ABOUT THE DDCF FESTIVAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM:
All accepted participants in the 2024 Choreographers Showcase will automatically be considered for the DDCF Festival Exchange Program. This unique initiative gives presenters at the Showcase the opportunity to be selected to perform their work again the following year at one of DDCF's partnering festivals, listed below. Festival Exchange Program recipients will be selected from among our Choreographer Showcase presenters by a panel of adjudicators who represent excellence and expertise in the field.
National Opportunities:
- One Choreographer will be selected for the opportunity to return as a guest performer at the 2025 Detroit Dance City Festival.
- One Choreographer will be selected for the opportunity to perform at the 2025 Midwest RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, Michigan
International Opportunities:
- One Choreographer will be selected for the opportunity to perform at the 2025 New Dance Festival in Daejeon, South Korea.
- One Choreographer will be selected for the opportunity to perform at the 2025 ATLAS in Puerto Rico.

As the main event of our lunch time showcase, DDCF’s “Rivera Court Stage” is a series of performance showcases taking place in Rivera Court located in the beautiful atrium of the Detroit Institute of Arts. This unique showcase is designed to highlight local, national, and international talent, sharing diverse styles of dance with DDCF audiences in an inspiring museum setting.

LOCATION: Rivera Court located in the beautiful atrium of the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202

- Rising Choreographer Award: One choreographer from the 2024 Rivera Court Stage will be chosen to create a new work for the 2025 DDCF Choreographers Showcase.
