Esoteric Dance Project closes its ninth season with Expectations, featuring three world-premieres; two by Co-Artistic Directors Christopher Tucker & Brenna Pierson-Tucker and one by its fourth Choreographer Mentoring Program recipient Timothy Tsang. EDP also collaborates with visual artist, Erin O’Neill who creates intimately personal works that will be displayed in the gallery space, drawing the audience into an entirely immersive experience throughout the performance. Anticipations are habitual, and most of the time unsaid but are a prevalent part of everyone’s day-to-day lives and opinions. Context delves into the idea of experiences from the viewer and how they can vastly change what is perceived. per-/form draws from the choreographers Asian & queer background and how different identities surface due to various social setting and Coddiwomple focuses on how a “pre-geriatric” dancer deals with the decision to have a child. Perception of persona or the possible assessment from others is incorporated into every person’s actions, even if not consciously acknowledged. With Expectations, Esoteric Dance Project highlights the many iterations that these situations create.
