In Self-Centered, dance artists Gloria Mwez (Untitled Project) and Kate O’Hanlon (The Modern Marvels Dance Company) individually investigate topics of a personal nature to create a performance centered on the self. Gloria captures the memories of her years living in Chicago, while Kate explores the intricacies of her Myers-Briggs personality type, INFJ. *Gloria Mwez first performed her own work at Links Hall’s THAW X in 2016; this will the debut of Kate O’Hanlon’s choreography at Links.
Company Bio / Info: Untitled Project was created in 2014 to bolster the Chicago’s creative community. The project facilitates workshops, events, and performances for movement artists. The aim is help artists quit their day jobs while converting “non-artists” into dance-lovers. MMDC Info: The Modern Marvels Dance Company is the resident modern dance ensemble of Tapman Productions. MMDC strives to include its dancers as an active part of the creative process, utilizing each person’s unique strengths to develop performance art that is honest, beautiful, and accessible to its audience.
Performer Bios / Info: Gloria Mwez tells stories which take human form. Kate O'Hanlon is the Artistic Director of The Modern Marvels Dance Company, which was founded in 2016 after spending several years collaborating with her husband-to-be, tap dancer Tristan Bruns. Her work has been presented in Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. Kate holds a B.S. in Psychology and Minor in Dance from Baldwin-Wallace College.
