Separate Thoughts, Shared Spaces

Event Description

Separate Thoughts, Shared Spaces artistically joins the collaborative efforts of Co-Artistic Directors Ashley Deran and Emily Loar with Project Bound Dance and Brenna Pierson-Tucker and Christopher Tucker of Esoteric Dance Project. This weekend-long performance series presents world-premieres alongside renewed works from company repertoire, interspersed with dance and media. Esoteric Dance Project examines relationships between intimate and professional partners, while also exploring interactions between projection, locomotion and the comical nature that can emerge.  Project Bound Dance seeks to resolve the often tense relationship between personal responsibility, media, and its persistent calls for action. This evening will also feature a showing of Project Bound Dance’s The One Hour Project, a series of one minute dance films created by Chicago choreographers and video artists.

Esoteric Dance Project presents works both recent and reviewed. After the Nickle Runs Out is an allegorical exploration of the fictional lives of Vaudevillian Peep Show performers and reflections on the quotidian; A Superfluity of Movement investigates the relationship between discordant projection, physical awkwardness, and the effect on audience perspective, and 2=1+1=Two examines intimacy and a couple’s growth both together and as separate entities.

Project Bound will be premiering a work in progress which examines media fatigue and the ways in which individuals digest and react in the face of constant media bombardment. Project Bound will also premiere A Theory on Staying, a solo work by Emily Loar, that deals with sexual identity, worth, and self-destructive habits.

The One Hour Project is an educational experiment in collaboration and concision that gives artists 60 minutes to create a 60 second dance film. Designed as a blind date between choreographers, dancers, and video artists, T1HP seeks to foster community and dialogue across artistic disciplines while encouraging further exploration of unique Chicago spaces.
