We're highlighting the legacy, breadth, variety, and artistic richness of the Chicago dance community by promoting a wealth of dance performances, educational opportunities, and other events, in partnership with more than ten companies and organizations across the city. This year's theme of “Open Doors, Open Spaces,” illuminates Chicago’s rich dance tapestry, while simultaneously celebrating the venues, artists, and unique spaces that contribute to the ongoing and growing diversity of Chicago’s dance scene. From Ballet to Butoh, and all styles in between, Chicago Dance Month offers something for everyone. The month long celebration culminates and extends into the first week of May in honor of National Dance Week, April 27-May 4. Join Chicago’s vibrant and varied dance community for special events hosted by our Chicago Dance Month partner organizations. Building on the theme this year of “Open Doors, Open Spaces,” all of the Partner events listed below allow audiences an insider look into the creative process and the spaces that house, support, and illuminate amazing dance. All Open Doors, Open Spaces events are FREE.
· Open Doors: Artists and companies host behind the scenes access into intimate rehearsal settings, in many cases sharing excerpts of new works with attendees.
· Open Spaces: A series of extended showcase events! Venues and artists open their performances spaces for multiple encounters over several hours, allowing attendees to drop in anytime and witness (and perhaps interact with) dancemakers who are exploring new ideas.
