"What does it feel like to learn that you've been lied to? Do you feel it in your gut, on your skin, or like me, rippling across your scalp?" (Excerpt from You’re So Stubborn). We lie so regularly that we lie to ourselves about lying. Call it guile, subterfuge, or embellishment - its still lies. This tricky subject is universal. We all know the physical experience of realizing that someone has lied to us. That sensation is where You’re So Stubborn begins.
Described by critics as "superb and subtle...the audience was held rapt by the macabre...", You’re So Stubborn is a combination of originally composed script, choreography, textiles, sound and stage design. True lies from the performers’ lives blend with a spectrum of movement that ranges from real studies in “deception spotting” to atmospheric contemporary dance. The resulting evening length dance-theater work is a visceral piece that examines instincts, relationships, and the elusive concept of trust.
As a part of Chicago Dance Month, Synapse Arts will open our doors and invite audiences to observe a rehearsal of You're So Stubborn on Wednesday, April 22 from 6pm-7pm. Please join us and experience the singular process of investigation and collaboration that has kept Synapse Arts at the forefront of the Chicago cultural landscape for the last decade.
This event is free and open to the public.
