Overview

Amy Seiwert’s Imagery, a contemporary ballet company announces the third film of its SKETCH FILMS : Red Thread documentary dance film project. The world premiere, "Purple Skin" is a dance film created by Chicago-based choreographer Stephanie Martinez in collaboration with filmmaker Dean Berdusis. Screening date: November 5, 6:30 pm PST/8:30 pm CST.

Martinez’s film is inspired by the work of longtime activist, Lori Cannon, who has dedicated her life to supporting those living with AIDS/HIV, a particularly vulnerable community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus of Cannon’s work over the years has been providing food and household necessities to those unable to feed themselves.

Featuring music composed by Kishi Bashi and Emily Hope Price, and SKETCH alumni dancers Joseph A. Hernandez (ODC Dance & Kate Weare Company) and Kelsey McFalls (Company C, Dance Theatre of SF). Ms. Martinez, who choreographed for the SKETCH Series in 2019, is a winner of the Joffrey Ballet’s "Winning Works” commission (2015). Most recently, Martinez was awarded an NEA grant for her premiere of Bliss! with Joffrey Ballet.
