Overview

Brandi Coleman is the associate artistic director of Jump Rhythm® Jazz Project in Chicago, IL and has been a performing and teaching artist with the company since 2001. She received an Emmy® Award for her performance in the PBS documentary Jump Rhythm® Jazz Project: Getting There. Brandi has led residencies and master classes at universities across the country, teaching Jump Rhythm® Technique and re-mounting Jump Rhythm® Repertory to students from the areas of dance, musical theatre and acting. Recently, her choreography was presented at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, Carthage College in Kenosha, WI and on the MFA Dancemakers concert at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Since 2002, she has served as adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University and, in 2009, was named to the Associated Student Government’s Faculty Honor Roll.

Drawing from her extensive history with Jump Rhythm® Jazz Project and Jump Rhythm®’s founder and artistic director Billy Siegenfeld, her creative research is inspired by the human experience and uses rhythm to tap into the element of emotion and conscious connecting. Characteristics of her work include visibly articulated music played in the body, physically integrated polyrhythms and rhythmic counterpoint into the dancing score, and expressive play used as a foundation for the creative process and resulting artistic work.

Brandi Coleman holds a BA in Dance from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, IL and is pursuing her MFA in Performing Arts: Dance at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
