The Hyde Park School of Dance is one of the treasures that comprise the vibrant south side arts community. Founded in 1993, the non-profit school provides opportunities for students of all ages to study, perform, and create classical and contemporary dance at the highest levels of discipline and artistry. The School's goal is to cultivate a love of dance and strength of body, mind and character that will benefit students throughout their lives.
HPSD presents original choreography in a year-round performance schedule and is known for its repertoire of original choreography for performance by young dancers. Alumni of the school have gone on to train and perform with the Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theater Workshop, and Dance Theater of Harlem. Committed to providing opportunities for any young person who wants to dance, the Hyde Park School of Dance provides need-based scholarships and offers an outreach program in local schools.
HPSD welcomes students of all ages whether they are interested in dance as a career or for exercise and recreation. Instruction ranges from Creative Movement classes for three-year olds to Pre-Professional Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop. HPSD is known for its repertoire of original choreography for performance by young dancers. The school’s Youth Company - Tyego Next Generation – trains with Tyego Dance Project, the professional company in residence at HPSD.
