Overview

Kelly Bowker and Dancers was founded in San Francisco in 2008, presenting work throughout the Bay Area, including performances at the San Francisco International Arts Festival and residencies at Shotwell Studios and the Garage. In 2011 the company was awarded a Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant for the development of Parallel Uncertainty, their first performance incorporating aerial dance.

Bowker left San Francisco for London where she received her MA in Choreography from the Laban Center before relocating to Chicago. Reframing Bodies will be the companys Chicago premiere July 11, 12, 13 and also the first show to feature choreography by company dancers as well as Bowker.

Kelly Bowker and Dancers create highly kinesthetic dances which aim to draw the audience in both through their content and physicality. Bowker has integrated text, props, aerial dance and most recently film into her work, always looking to challenge both her audience and her own expectations of what dance can do and say.
