SOPHIE MINOUCHE ALLEN is a Chicago-based dance artist who imbues playfulness and nuance in all her endeavors. She enjoys honing her sense of musicality and humor to connect with deeper subtexts… and she loves to make people smile.
Sophie performs, choreographs, and teaches throughout Chicago and nationally. Her work is shaped by cycles of care between her Oma, Mom and herself. Sophie is drawn to embody and embolden this lineage, which grounds her artistry in different shades of love, womanhood and vulnerability.
Sophie holds a B.F.A. in Dance and a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) from the University of Michigan, and is a certified Countertechnique® Teacher.
As a performer, Sophie has worked with Nora Sharp, Al Evangelista, Anna Caffarelli and Crimson Moeller/Fever Dream Dance Collective, Jessi Stegall, Darling Shear, Ayako Kato/Art Union Humanscape, Sean Roschman/Niko8, Katlin Michael Bourgeois, Rigo Saura, Shannon Gillen, Meredith Monk, and Darrell Grand Moultrie among others.
As a choreographer, Sophie’s work has been presented by FACT/SF for their Summer Dance Festival at the ODC Theater (San Francisco, CA), Thodos Dance Chicago/DanceWorks Chicago for New Dances 2024 (Chicago, IL), Midwest RAD Fest (Kalamazoo, MI), COMMON conservatory (Chicago, IL), Detroit Dance Exchange (Detroit, MI), Going Dutch Festival/Side Street Studio Arts (Elgin, IL) and Peridance/Performance Lab Showcase (New York, NY).
As a teacher, Sophie currently offers open classes at The Rooted Space, closed curriculum classes within The Joffrey Academy of Dance’s Professional Training programs, and co-facilitates the Chicago Countertechnique® Community class series throughout the city.
Additionally, Sophie is an Event Assistant for Daring Dances, a curatorial platform under the direction of Clare Croft.
