Salt Creek Ballet Presents "Sleeping Beauty: Aurora's Wedding and Additional Repertorie"

Salt Creek Ballet brings Sleeping Beauty: Aurora’s Wedding and Additional Repertoire  to the McAninch Arts Center Saturday, May 16th at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 17th at 1:00 p.m.   Join Salt Creek Ballet for Princess Aurora’s Wedding, with Little Red Riding Hood, Puss ‘n Boots and the White Cat in attendance. Additional Salt Creek Ballet repertoire will complete the performance, including two World Premieres, Capricco Espangol by Ilya Kozadayev and MOZ-heart by Eddy Ocampo.

After a bumpy and confusing start, the petite Sarah Gottlieb emerges into the beautiful amber glow (from Margaret Nelson) softly lighting a chunk of the audience seated in the round. Sarah is small in stature, but a stoic and strong witness with the ability to capture her audience simply by standing there.

OPEN SPACES: Thank Dance It’s Friday: TDIF! at Pritzker Park

*In case of inclement weather all Pritzker Park events will be moved to the Fine Arts Building.

Chicagoans are invited to start their weekend fun each Friday beginning at 4 p.m. with “Thank Dance Its Friday! (TDIF),” a FREE dance concert featuring three to five different companies at Pritzker Park on State Street.

"The Music Moves," Evanston Dance Ensemble

For the first time in its 18-year history, the Evanston Dance Ensemble  – in collaboration with the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago, the ETHS Choral Ensemble, and the Steve Rashid Quintet – will present a full evening of dance paired with live music performances. The Music Moves includes six pieces from professional choreographers set to live jazz, classical and rhythmic body percussion.

Joffrey Ballet’s “Unique Voices” presents a stellar showcase for both the company’s unique voice, and for the distinctive choreographic voices represented in a provocative program of three contemporary ballets, all Joffrey premieres. The dancers’ versatility and strength in ranks are in abundant evidence in all three pieces.

Once again Nomi Dance Company’s annual spring engagement includes the commissioning of Chicago’s finest talents. Monique Haley, (formerly of River North Dance Chicago), Stephanie Martinez, (founding member of River North Dance Chicago and one of Chicago’s most sought after choreographers) Giordano Dance Chicago’s Joshua Blake Carter, and Nomi’s own Katie Carey.

David Roussève/REALITY Stardust: A Tale of Woe in the Digital Age

 

 

Junior is an orphan, a romantic, a homosexual. Junior is also a compulsive texter, one of the central themes of L.A.-based choreographer David Roussève’s Stardust, a dance-theater piece described as a “coming-of-age story for the Twitter age.” The final performance takes place tonight at the Dance Center of Columbia College.
