Kaitlin Webster emerges with Hydra

Kaitlin Webster hails from Chicago Dance Crash, and has been performing in various engagements since her arrival in Chicago a few years ago. Audience members packed in tightly last weekend to support the emerging Cornish grad in her first full-length concert of independent choreography.  A cool loft above The Wormhole coffeehouse (just two doors down from Outerspace in Wicker Park) was converted into Hydra’s performance space, making for an intimate evening with a DIY feel.

Hubbard Street: Testing the Limits

“If dance only does what we assume it can do, it will expire. I keep trying to test the limits of what the word choreography means.”

The words of William Forsythe headline the top of page three in a hefty program book outlining the closing engagement for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s 36th season. It seems that everything Hubbard Street does, it does well, and last weekend’s concert was no exception.

Paul Taylor's Joyful Noise

The Paul Taylor Dance Company returned to the Auditorium Theater after a thirty-year hiatus  to remind us that Taylor, 83 and still creating, is one of the greats. Whether with a hit or, as sometimes happens with bold experimentation, a miss, Taylor is always exploring. The three contrasting pieces that comprised the company’s Chicago program showcased distinctive aspects of Taylor’s theatrical voice, as well as common threads that distinguish all of his work.
